1st of July will mark International Reggae Day, a genre declared as an intangible cultural heritage in 2018 by UNESCO. Celebrating the best of Jamaican creativity and its impact on culture worldwide, the media event was founded in 1994 by Andrea Davis. But it was in 1968, on the 1st of July, that the prestigious Jamaican band called Toots and the Maytals sang "Do the Reggae", using the word for the first time.
Today, this spiritual music of struggle, popularized by its icon Bob Marley, has become the music of the oppressed in the world.

From 1977 to 1980, Black Uhuru experienced a meteoric rise, which the compilation TAXI TRAX released by TABOU1 in association with TAXI, Sly & Robbie's label, and Diggers Factory proposes to retrace, through tracks produced and directed by Sly & Robbie, which have become Reggae anthems, like "Abortion" or "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" but also rarities that were only released on 7-inch in Jamaica, like the covers of the hits "No No No", "Sun Is Shining", or the surprising "Aquarius" that has nothing to do with the original of the 5th Dimensions.
This compilation is also a tribute to Robbie Shakespeare, half of Sly and Robbie, the legendary Jamaican bassist who worked with Mick Jagger, Bob Marley, or Grace Jones, and who passed away at the age of 68 last December.
Including tracks never released before, the record is now available on our website!
Gone Clear, is the quintessence of reggae and groove, as only Manu Dibango can conceive them. After a stay in Nigeria and a great tour with the Ivorian Radio-Television Orchestra, the Cameroonian saxophonist landed for the first time in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1976.
Just a few steps away from Bob Marley’s home (taking the time to greet him every day on his way to the studio to say “hello”!). It was with the cream of the crop of musicians at that time (Robbie Shakespeare and Sly Dunbar, Randy and Michael Brecker, Lou Marini…) and in the legendary Dynamic Sounds Studios that he shaped this 100% roots album. With a slightly relaxed and positive atmosphere, far from the usual militant style lyrics, Manu’s reggae invites you to “chill out”, and is supported by a highly effective backing choir.
